I dug myself a deep hole
and blindly jumped right in.
On my own, I dove head-first
into that bottle of gin.
Like a lobster in the pot
I relaxed into sloe breath
while everything around me
almost simmered me to death.

Into the longest late night forging
beyond the brightest sunlit day
distracted by pursuits of passion
as if to wile the smiles away
avoiding dreams, for sleep is daunting
of voiceless visions’ repartee
devoid of deeper meaning, save
to keep a shipwrecked heart at bay.
